Dave’s Home Page Clarity Scorecard

Last updated July 2026

This tool is inspired by the clarity research of Flint McGlaughlin and the MECLABS Institute, who teach that a home web page must quickly answer three questions every first time visitor is silently asking.

  1. Where am I?
  2. What can I do here?
  3. Why should I do it?

Clear and confident answers to these questions, explained in MECLABS’ clarity framework, dramatically improve first impressions and decision confidence.

Use this scorecard to assess how clearly your home page communicates value, evaluate your headline and primary call to action, and generate a structured, paste ready summary you can share with a designer, writer, or team.

No analytics, traffic data, or conversion rates are required. Answer based on what a first time visitor would understand within the first few seconds.

Scores below 70 often signal first impression confusion. Start by improving your headline, primary call to action, and first screen layout.
