How Much Time Are You Spending Managing Social Media?

Last updated October 2026

How much time does managing social media actually take?

This calculator isn’t trying to estimate every minute you spend creating content, engaging with followers, or thinking about social media. It’s simply designed to estimate some of the minimum administrative time involved in publishing, scheduling, and reviewing performance across multiple social accounts.

The real benefit may be bigger. Moving my social media management into one platform also reduced daily context switching. I knew where to go to schedule posts, see what was coming up, and review performance, which left me more focused for everything else I was working on.

For example, publishing the same post to LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X would be 4.
Count the original pieces of content, not each individual platform publication.
Include opening the platform, creating the post, adding the content, checking it, and publishing or scheduling it.
This might include checking what is scheduled, moving posts, verifying publication, or figuring out what needs to go where.
Include time spent moving between individual platforms to review performance or gather reporting data.

Your Estimated Social Media Admin Time

This is the time spent operating your social media workflow, before counting content creation or engagement.

Publishing 0 hours per month
Scheduling and Admin 0 hours per month
Analytics 0 hours per month
Estimated administrative workload
0 hours/month
0 hours per year

The number above isn't an estimate of how much time any specific software will save you. It simply shows roughly how much time your current social media administration may be consuming.

Methodology

How this estimate works: Publishing time is calculated by multiplying the number of original posts you publish each week by the number of accounts each post is published to and your estimated publishing time per account. Weekly publishing and administrative time are converted to a monthly average using 52 weeks divided by 12 months. Your monthly analytics estimate is then added to the total.
